Prompt Engineer
We’re looking for a part-time Prompt Engineer to help us craft, test, and refine prompts for Luna, our AI digital health companion. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who has had a moderate amount of prompt experience and has had some success. Someone who is familiar with the tooling and is excited to keep growing.
Prompt engineering is as much art as science—you’ll need to think creatively, test often, and iterate based on output. You’ll receive product specs or PRDs, draft corresponding prompts, and work with the team as we build tooling around them, test results, and improve through fast iteration. Familiarity with environments like AWS Bedrock is helpful but not mandatory.
What You'll Do
- Draft prompts based on product requirements and user goals.
- Use tools like AWS Bedrock to test and evaluate prompt performance.
- Iterate quickly on prompts based on observed results and feedback.
- Collaborate with product and engineering to align tone, intent, and behavior.
- Contribute to internal best practices and prompt testing workflows.
What We Offer
- Part-time work with flexibility. Around 20 hours per week.
- A chance to shape the personality and effectiveness of Luna.
- Opportunity to grow your experience with cutting-edge AI tools.
- Collaborative and open-minded team environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, English, Communications, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Linguistics, Journalism, or Psychology—or equivalent experience.
- Moderate professional experience with prompt engineering.
- Positive attitude.
- Demonstrated success crafting prompts that generate high-quality LLM output.
- Familiarity with prompt testing platforms (e.g. AWS Bedrock, OpenAI).
- Strong writing skills and a sharp eye for detail.
- Creative, iterative thinker who sees prompting as both art and logic.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving, low-structure environment.
Location
This is an in-office role from Sunnyvale, CA preferably. Working from our Los Angeles office is also possible.
About Cairns Health
Cairns Health (https://www.cairns.ai/) is creating a fundamentally better healthcare experience for people with chronic health conditions and those who care for them. We make healthcare more accessible by simplifying complex care plans, connecting care teams, and meeting patients where they live. Through our conversational AI, patients use their voice to interact with our digital care companion, who proactively gives medication reminders, symptom checks, behavioral nudges, and even engages in friendly conversation to ease loneliness. Cairns uses a device that includes radar to put the patient in context and passively monitors their activities—including heart rate, breathing rate, and sleep stages—all without a wearable. The result is informed and timely intervention that drives improved clinical outcomes, reduced care delivery costs, and a more satisfactory healthcare experience for all.
