About Us
Focaldata is on a mission to close the "understanding gap" — the space between what organisations
think they know about people and reality. We're building a new kind of tech-enabled research company: one that delivers deep, accurate insight at the speed of software, for a fraction of the cost of traditional methods.
We work with organisations that matter — from brands like New Balance to campaign groups like Hope Not Hate and non-profits like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. And we're doing it with a team of researchers, engineers, data scientists, and product builders who genuinely love reimagining what's possible in research.
Now we're looking for a Junior Prompt Product Engineer to help shape what comes next. Join us.
About The Role
We're looking for a domain expert with a research background who's ready to roll up their sleeves and build. If you've spent time in research but find yourself more energised by making things than writing about them, this role was designed with you in mind. You'll work hands-on alongside engineers to develop and improve a real system, bringing your domain knowledge directly into the product — not just into a deck or a report.
This is an early-career AI role, and that's intentional. We're not looking for someone who's seen it all — we're looking for someone with the right foundation who wants to grow fast, contribute immediately, and own their work.
What You'll Do
You'll be embedded within the engineering team, working directly on features and improvements as they're built. Think of it as being a forward-deployed engineer with deep domain expertise. Day-to-day, that means:
- Contributing hands-on to building and iterating on features and system improvements alongside engineers
- Working with product and engineering to shape the feature roadmap and feed into planning
- Collaborating with the go-to-market team to surface feedback, understand how the system is performing in practice, and identify where gaps exist
- Keeping features and tickets grounded in real outcomes by providing domain context throughout active development
Who You Are (skills And Experience)
- You have 2-4 years experience working in a research team and understand how research workflows are structured and what they're trying to achieve
- You're an active AI user — not just aware of the tools, but genuinely integrating them into your work/life
- You've shown an interest in building: whether that's creating your own tools and automations in a previous role, or working closely alongside a team developing a system
- You're able to take the processes you've used to achieve research goals and translate them into structured workflows others can understand. You can turn your domain knowledge into a starting point for how to break down and solve problems with automation
Who You Are (mindset)
- You're self-driven and actively seek out new things to learn
- You're proactive and collaborative — equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- You take ownership of your work and speak up when something needs to be said
- You keep things moving — you're the kind of person who drives momentum rather than waiting for it
- You have a genuine curiosity about building new technology and want to be part of making something real
